What is the NHTSA?

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is a federal government agency within the Department of Transportation (DOT) which focuses on vehicle safety regulations. Using a Vehicle ID Number (VIN) or State and License plate number, you can check for safety recalls by visiting the NHTSA search page.

How do I find my VIN?

A unique Vehicle Identification Number, also referred to as a VIN, can be found either stamped or placed using a sticker on the frame or plate of your motorcycle.

Where to look for the VIN

On the frame near the engine
Under the seat on a plate or sticker
On the right side of the steering head
Underneath the throttle, where the forks go through the frame

You can also find the VIN on your motorcycle title or transfer paperwork.
